Hi! I’m Patrick Erdley, Program Engagement Manager at Big Brothers Big Sisters Kentuckiana. I’m working on a community building working towards enhancing services to the LGBTQ community. So I’m putting together a meet and greet for the Sweet Evening Breeze, and Executive Director Glenn Martin. They’re looking to begin implementing services. The meet & greet is a chance for other organizations to learn about what they’re trying to accomplish – and for him to hear about other housing, youth, and LGBTQ service providers in Louisville. All informational. Here’s more on Sweet Evening Breeze:
Sweet Evening Breeze was founded to address the overrepresentation of LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness in Louisville which mirrors national data and the lack of affirming services to address the additional risk they face while on the streets compared to their heterosexual and cisgender counterparts. It was James Herndon “Sweets,” a Kentucky historical figure whose hospitality and compassion for others inspired our purpose and vision to offer LGBTQ+ affirming emergency shelter, food and supportive services for young adults who may experience homelessness and find themselves in need of inclusive resources. We strive to provide Louisville’s young adults experiencing homelessness with an open and affirming environment and are committed to empowering and connecting our residents to vital resources while facilitating their community engagement through the promotion of socially just services, education, and care. Planned services include a day program, shelter, case management, referrals, and mental health services for young adults. Additionally, we will engage in research to develop and promote promising practices to help inform interventions for the population.
